Matthew Stafford is now officially one of the top 50 passers in NFL history.
Stafford moved past Hall of Michael Crabtree Authentic Jersey Fame quarterback Len Dawson and former Minnesota, Washington, Kansas City and Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon to move into 50th place in all-time passing yards.
Stafford entered Thursday with 28,627 yards and needed 117 yards to pass both Dawson and Gannon to make the move. He officially passed both of them with a 1-yard pass to Theo Riddick in the second quarter during the Detroit Lions’ game against the Minnesota Vikings.
If the Texans beat the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, the Colts will be two games behind Houston in the AFC South. That means Indianapolis cannot slip up in its final five games if it expects to catch the Texans in the division.
“We still have an opportunity and are still in a position where we can win our division,” cornerback Darius Butler said. “We have to take care of business. We can’t be concerned with what is going on outside of the building, we just have to take care of our business and win the games.”
There was a lot of uncertainty about how the Colts would function with Mychal Rivera Authentic Jersey backup QB Scott Tolzien starting in place of the injured Luck. Tolzien wasn’t perfect — he was wild on some throws and had two fourth-quarter interceptions — but he was not the biggest issue for the Colts.
The defense, as has been the case against the Steelers, couldn’t stop QB Ben Roethlisberger and his offense. The Steelers racked up 369 total yards and were 7-of-11 on third down. Still, the Colts could have lived with that had they been able to take advantage of scoring chances.
It started when Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri missed his second field goal in his past three tries — a 52-yard attempt — in the first quarter. Until then, he had made an NFL-record 44 straight first-quarter field goals. The Colts had a chance to get to within seven late in the first half, but receiver T.Y. Hilton dropped what would have been a catch-and-run touchdown along Pittsburgh’s sideline.
