NBA trade rumors: Hornets make Kemba Walker available, prepare to hit reset button

Hornets fans will likely be buzzing with anger Friday morning once they hear the news about their favorite All-Star point guard.

Charlotte has made Kemba Walker available in trade talks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, as the front office would like to attach Walker to one of its bad contracts as part of a larger deal. Walker is clearly the closest thing the Hornets have to a franchise player, but he is only the sixth-highest paid member of the team behind Cody Zeller, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams, Nic Batum and Dwight Howard.

Frontcourt: Kevin Love, Cavs. The Cavs’ defense has fallen apart, and they’re 4-10 in their last 14. That could cost Love. But overall, he has had great numbers (18.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 40.1 percent from the 3-point line), and the Cavs are still third in the East, deserving of two All-Stars.

Wild card: Kyle Lowry, Raptors. Lowry could get snubbed here because his numbers are down overall (17.0 points in 33.0 minutes), but he has been the guy who has most sacrificed in order to make the Raptors’ offense work better. Toronto is on pace for 56 wins, and Lowry deserves credit.

Kaplan: Considering Jake Allen’s inconsistency and the fact that highly regarded prospect Ville Husso might not be ready yet, I could see Hutton coming back to St. Louis — even if it’s for a one-year deal. That gives the Blues a bridge to Husso and presents the option of dangling Allen for a trade. (His $4.35 million cap hit isn’t outrageous and he might just need a change of scenery. Perhaps the New York Islanders will bite.)

Peters: Hutton is a really interesting case. He’s 32, so I don’t know how big the market is going to be for him, especially if he’s looking for a chance to start. That’s not to say teams won’t be interested, but the best spot might be in St. Louis as part of a platoon with Allen. I’d be very surprised if any team out there wanted to go longer than two years with Hutton, so it might be better to stay in a situation he’s more familiar with, if both parties are interested.packers_007
