Cowboys plan to pick up Byron Jones’ fifth-year option

The team is expected to pick up the fifth-year option for the cornerback, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The move should give him a $6.17 million salary for 2019, one that is guaranteed for injury, Rapoport added.

The deadline to officially employ the fifth-year option is May 2.

Dallas selected Jones in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft . Last week, Jones revealed that he’s returning to cornerback after playing the past two years at safety.

Sunday, in noting the anniversary of the first televised NCAA Tournament final, I didn’t give the year. It was 1946. As the late Roberto de Vicenzo said after losing a tie for the 1968 Masters by signing a miscalculated scorecard — 50th anniversary on April 14 — “What a stupid I am!”

He’ll probably want to forget that he went hitless in his major-league debut, a 5-1  Yankees win over the Blue Jays on Sunday. The Yankees took the four-game series, 3-1.

All eyes were on Torres, the Yankees’ most highly touted prospect in years, as he played his first games in pinstripes. They’ll stay that way, considering manager Aaron Boone said he expected the 21-year-old’s promotion from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to be longterm.

Torres, batting eighth, went 0-for-4, striking out in his first at-bat before grounding into a double play, popping out with runners on second base and third base and then flying out to right field. He made a couple smooth plays at second, including a sixth-inning double play that forced him to make a long, strong throw to Didi Gregorius at second base.

Most of all, he looked comfortable throughout.

The Spurs have won five championships, and as a player, Udoka missed out on the 2007 championship by a year. But in his second year on the bench with Pop, in 2014, he finally got his championship ring.seahawks_056
