Dr. Myron Rolle is a neurosurgeon, 4 years after retiring from the NFL

Myron Rolle was once billed as the smartest player entering the NFL. Now, Dr. Myron Rolle is the newest neurosurgeon to graduate from Florida State.

Kids Zach Mettenberger Jersey Been waiting on this moment since the 5th grade. To be Dr. Myron Rolle. Glad it came today! #MedSchoolGraduation#MGHNeurosurgeryNext # 2%
Rolle’s path to the NFL was unprecedented. He graduated from Florida State in just 2.5 years, then postponed playing professional football while he studied at Oxford University. When he returned, there were questions of whether he was more committed to football or being an academic, which some believe hurt his draft stock.

Rolle was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft and retired in 2013 after he announced he was going back to school to pursue a medical degree. Now, Rolle has achieved his dream of becoming a doctor. Along the way he’s become an inspiration to everyone. These are some of the comments from his Instagram post.

Kids Doug Gilmour Jersey Hawkins made headlines early in the football season when he spoke candidly about his support of Colin Kaepernick during his national anthem protest, telling Cleveland.com:

It’s not so much about the kneeling as much as it is about the message. And it’s a message that you guys all know I’m passionate about and we’ve kind of been through this before.

Hawkins never shied away from standing up for what he believed in during his NFL career. He wore a shirt that said Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford in 2015, following the killing of 12-year-old Rice by Cleveland police, and Crawford, a 22-year-old also killed by Ohio police while holding a toy BB gun.

The receiver earned his master’s degree from Columbia in sports management and has not announced what his next move after football will be.

Whitaker knows what he and Trammell did together.

It’s up to the Modern Baseball Committee to make sense of Whitaker’s case, and there aren’t great odds of that this year perhaps in 20 years when more sabermetrically inclined people are on the committee.

Whitaker, it’s worth noting, doesn’t appear to be losing sleep over his Hall of Fame chances. Remarried since 2010, he’s active as a Jehovah’s Witness, back in line, back in step (and) attending my meetings.

End of day, Whitaker knows what he and Trammell did together.

You would’ve had to watch us day in, day out to appreciate what a second baseman and a shortstop accomplished playing for the Detroit Tigers, Whitaker said.

You would have had to watch us play the game game, not just defense, but the whole game, the full game (and) you would see that Tram and I were definitely worthy of being in the Hall of Fame.

Curtis Granderson is batting .149, with only four extra-base hits in 18 games. He’s struck out 18 times and walked only five times, a 3.6-to-1 ratio that’s well above his career number of 2.1-to-1. Yes, it’s still very early and Granderson has been a streaky hitter, and he’s earned the benefit of the doubt, especially coming off a 30-homer season in 2016. But he’s 36, and every player slows down at some point in his career. Is this the beginning of the end for Granderson, one of baseball’s most respected (and liked) players?

Bengals schedule 2017: Cincinnati attempts to find path back to playoffs

The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a 6-9-1 season after a string of five straight playoff appearances. That’s put a little more pressure on Marvin Lewis entering his 15th season as head coach, and Andy Dalton faces a challenge in leading the franchise to its first playoff victory since the 1990-91 season.

Their first-round pick, running back Leonard Fournette at No. 4 overall, was selected as the presumptive leader of a ground attack the Jags have lacked since Bortles arrived. Their second-round pick, offensive lineman Cam Robinson, is a run-blocking beast who should aid in said rushing attack. He also could do wonders protecting the quarterback who’s been sacked 140 times in three seasons.

Add a fourth-round flyer in wide receiver Dede Westbrook and a free-agency class that, on paper, significantly improved the Jaguars’ defense, and you get Bortles’ best, perhaps only chance to succeed in Jacksonville. So why not give him the shot?

We’ll know before the 2017 season’s end whether Bortles passes or fails the test. (Ask Tyrod Taylor, Colin Kaepernick and/or Robert Griffin III why.) Healthy scratches toward the end of the season, given Bortles’ injury guarantee for 2018, would mean the end of his Jaguars tenure.

If it were just about winning alone, then Watson would have been the No. 1 pick in this draft, no question. The draft process lives to find questions through overanalysis, however. Watson was judged for skipping the Senior Bowl. His arm strength was questioned. His interception total the past two seasons was questioned.

For Watson, however, it has always been about having more positives than negatives.nike_cardinals_303

The man whose party-animal reputation precedes him might try to revive his football career in … New Orleans? Where bars and strip clubs in the city’s French Quarter are broken up only by the occasional gift shop or restaurant?

And it’s not just the blood-and-guts side of it. Things like advanced statistical analysis are good for the game. It gives people a new way of looking at baseball. It provides a deeper look that isn’t just batting averages, home runs and other traditional stats. It offers new fans and longstanding ones a new scope with which to view baseball.

Wally Pipp, falling sick and losing his spot to Lou Gehrig: Sure, Wally Pipp would have had a longshot Hall of Fame candidacy regardless of his luck, hitting .283 between 1913 and 1924. But when he took sick for a day in 1925 and lost his job as New York Yankees first baseman to Lou Gehrig, Pipp forever became a punch line. Now, if a player has this experience, they’ve been Wally Pipped. There will never be a Hall of Fame plaque for that.

Benny Kauff, getting in trouble with the law at the wrong time in MLB history: The Ty Cobb of the Federal League, Benny Kauff hit .357 between 1914 and 1915. After that league folded, he joined the New York Giants and established himself as a good, if not great player, hitting .287 with 14.4 WAR from 1916 to 1920. In early 1920, however, he was implicated in a stolen car ring. While Kauff later won acquittal at trial, baseball’s new commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis barred him for life. It was shortly after the Black Sox Scandal, with Landis cleaning house and reforming baseball’s image. Kauff was collateral damage.

Yankees owner on Aroldis Chapman’s checkered past: ‘Sooner or later we forget’

When the Yankees originally acquired Aroldis Chapman in December 2015, they did so with the understanding their new prized closer carried significant off-field baggage.

At the time, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner downplayed the negative press. Chapman served a 30-game suspension under MLB’s domestic violence policy, returned to pitch at a high level and allowed the Yankees to sell him to the Cubs for a premium at the deadline.

Just spoke to Hal Steinbrenner. What he meant by earlier Chapman comments was sooner or later we forgive. Misspoke with forget.

In October 2015, Chapman was accused of pushing and choking his girlfriend and discharging a firearm six times during a dispute at their Florida home.

Chapman was not arrested, and prosecutors in the case eventually declined to press charges, citing conflicting accounts and insufficient evidence.

He’s going to start some light work, Bochy said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. It’s going to be slow at first, nothing major. Things have calmed down a little. There’ll be no surgery or anything. We’re going to rehab this.

According to the Chronicle, head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner says the Giants medical team continues to gather opinions and expects to share its firm diagnosis Wednesday.

The injury — described the day after it happened in Colorado as a Grade 1 or 2 sprain of the left AC joint — is expected to sideline Bumgarner, 27, for at least two months.

Rays’ Evan Longoria hobbled by sore foot during hitting slump

Evan Longoria may be dealing with a similar foot injury that hampered him during the 2013 season.

The Rays’ star third baseman revealed Monday he’s been playing through discomfort in his left foot, similar to the plantar fasciitis issue he suffered through in his right foot four seasons ago. That might help explain a recent 3-for-29 slump that has the three-time All-Star batting just .208.

Longoria, who has just four home runs and 13 RBIs this season, will sit out Monday’s series-opener against the Marlins.

Limited Mens Landry Jones Jersey Despite the pain in his foot, the 31-year-old said he hopes to play again Tuesday.

It is worth noting Longoria did not miss much time in 2013, but his production did fall off a bit. The Rays, who are 4 1/2 games back in the AL East, can ill-afford to lose Longoria, or have him hampered throughout the season.

Mens Ty Rattie Jersey Artavis Scott, WR, Clemson Scott is only 5-10, 193, but is smart, quick and can cut on a dime. He became Clemson’s all-time leading receiver with 245 catches for 2,480 yards and 19 touchdowns in just three years. Scott was the first-ever true junior to play in the Senior Bowl after completing his degree a year early. Scott is a solid route runner, but does have a limited route tree.

The moves the Angels made aren’t sexy and won’t excite many people, but for a franchise with one of the worst ranked farm systems in all of baseball, these are the kinds of moves that can give you a bit of flexibility at the trade deadline. No, they won’t replenish the farm system, and if they choose to keep players such as Revere and Espinosa then no one will think twice. But the Angels, a team that’s in a state of flux and kind of wasting the career of Mike Trout, have to start somewhere. These moves are somewhere.

Mitchell Trubisky reports to Bears minicamp in grandmother’s hand-me-down Toyota

Mitchell Trubisky is a man of his word, and he really loves the women in his life.

The former North Carolina quarterback reported for Bears rookie minicamp Thursday driving a 1997 Toyota Camry that was a hand-me-down vehicle from his grandmother. Trubisky drove the car while in college and, when Bears general manager Ryan Pace asked Trubisky at March if he’d drive the car to work on his first day if the Bears drafted him, Trubisky said he would.

The Bears have drawn significant criticism for taking Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick at the NFL Draft in Philadelphia on Thursday, given he likely would have still been available in the later rounds. Part of fans’ frustration was the fact the team signed QB Mike Glennon to a three-year, $18.5 million contract offseason, which also didn’t go over well.

Chicago swapped picks with San Francisco in a surprise trade to ensure they could get their potential franchise quarterback in Trubisky. The Bears gave up a third- and fourth-round pick this year (Nos. 67 and 111 overall) and a third-round pick in the 2018 draft to move up one spot.

The night didn’t go so well for the Bulls, either, as Chicago was eliminated from the NBA playoffs after falling 4-2 to Boston in the opening series.

The Colts did pretty well with the first eight selections under GM Chris Ballard. The early picks of Hooker and Wilson for the secondary were great, and Mack may end up as a speedy steal for their other backfield. There’s some good upside there in the other picks, but it will require some development for them to be more than depth players.

Panthers pick up Kelvin Benjamin’s fifth-year option, report says

Kelvin Benjamin will get another year in Charlotte.

The Panthers on Tuesday exercised their fifth-year option on the wide receiver to keep him with the team through the 2018 season, ESPN first reported.

Trevor Siemian Authentic Jersey Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman indicated in March the team would likely keep Benjamin, who is expected to cost the Panthers approximately $8.5 million.

Brandon Bass Authentic Jersey Romo stepped away from golf for a while after undergoing back surgery at the end of the 2013 NFL season, but he returned to competitive play earlier this spring. Romo played alongside his father, Ramiro, in the Azalea Invitational in Charleston, S.C., last month. He shot 78-77-77 to miss the 54-hole cut and days later announced he was joining the CBS NFL broadcast team for the 2017 season.

While some still believe the 37-year-old might be lured out of his retirement from football under the right circumstances, for now it appears Romo is channeling his competitive instincts to the links.

NBA playoff scores 2017: Celtics-Wizards Game 2 was the best game of the postseason

On Tuesday, Game 2 between Washington and Boston gave us everything: a point guard duel, an impossibly incredible performance from the Celtics’ superstar, a tight game with buckets being exchanged the stretch, and an overtime period that saw a one-man takeover.

Several of those phrases describe Isaiah Thomas, who scored 53 points on his late sister’s birthday. But that game was amazing outside of Thomas’ tragic family circumstances, too.

Western Conference truthers might still argue for the Grizzlies vs. Spurs Game 4, that’s a fair point. However, Tuesday’s Game 2 had everything we loved about a tight postseason game wrapped up in one night little neat bowl. For that, we truly appreciated this sport.

As a franchise, the New York Yankees have been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, and have a stack of pennants and trophies to show for it. So it’s hard for this club to pull something off that gives their fan base an unforgettable thrill, and yet this year’s team managed to do it with a magical moment in the first month of the season.

LaMarcus Aldridge needs to be better for the Spurs to beat the Rockets

The Houston Rockets blew out the San Antonio Spurs, 126-99, after leading by 30 points at the half. The quick pace of Houston’s offense matched by the efficiency of its three-point shooters proved too much for San Antonio to handle.

A brutal showing from LaMarcus Aldridge made it impossible for the Spurs to climb out of the hole that kept growing deeper. His all-around night was truly disappointing.

The Spurs’ second-leading scorer total just four points and grabbed six rebounds. At times he looked unplayable altogether.

When the Wizards drafted Wall in 2010, and Beal two years later in 2012, this is probably the best-case scenario that they expected from the duo. Beal suffered through bothersome injuries in three of his first four seasons, but this year, he missed only five games. Wall, playing 78 games himself, had a career year. They each had career highs in scoring — both checking in at about 23 points per game — while Wall was second in the league in assists by averaging 10.7 per game.

It’s a yin-and-yang pairing. Beal is perimeter focused and demands the defense’s attention at all times thanks to his shooting touch, while Wall is as physically dominant as basically any player in the league with his combination of strength and speed. As the duo combined for 73 points in Game 6, it became painfully obvious that it’s just too hard to slow these two down.
